Ride Against Abuse Tonight

The seventh annual Ride Against Abuse Community Awareness Event for the Barbara Kettle Gundlach Shelter Home will begin tonight at 6:00 at the Calumet AmericInn.

The event will start with a ceremony to remember victims and celebrate survivors. Participants will ride their motorcycles from Calumet along M-26 through Lake Linden to Hancock and Houghton to create an awareness of domestic violence. The ride will end at the parking lot at Ray Kestner Waterfront Park in Houghton.

Those not riding are invited to line the streets to show support for those that are riding against abuse.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and the Gundlach Shelter continues its efforts to raise money to remodel its new building.

If you donate $40 to the “Build a Bedroom Campaign,” you’ll get a chance to win a flight across the Keweenaw with pilot and photographer Neil Harri. Donate $100, and receive three chances to win.

The deadline is Friday.
