Ribbon Cutting To Celebrate Opening Of New Express Care Clinic

The public is invited to come celebrate the opening of the UP Health System—Portage Express Care clinic in Calumet.

A ribbon cutting ceremony will be held followed by a free BBQ and tours of the facility on Saturday from 11am to 1pm.

The clinic is located at 56720 Calumet Avenue and is open Saturdays, Sundays, and Mondays from 8 am – 8 pm.

They treat patients with minor illness or injuries, sprains and strains, soar throats, ear aches, cuts, minor burns, flu symptoms, coughs, colds, eye infections, and more.

Services are offered at a $55 fee, the same fee structure as the Express Care location in Houghton. Additional fees apply for services such as x-rays, or labs.

“We are offering this service to help with our community’s healthcare needs on the weekend, and also to help with the large patient volumes experienced on Mondays,” said Dr. Tara Robinette, Emergency Department and Express Care Director. “The $55 base fee is cheaper than going to an emergency department, so that’s a benefit to our patients.”

Several Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants of UP Health System – Portage, including Bruce Anderson, Guy Pellegrini, and Courtney Smith, will staff the Calumet Express Care.

Patients will be checked-in and treated on a first-come-first-serve basis. If a serious condition is discovered and cannot be treated at Express Care, it will be recommended patients go to a hospital’s Emergency Department.
