The students at CJ Sullivan Elementary School in L’Anse needed a new playground, and when they return to school next week, they’ll have one.
Through grants and local fundraisers, $65,000 was raised to replace the aging equipment.
The community then came together on June 17th to build the new playground in just one day.
Vice President of the CJ Sullivan PTO Carrie Rich describes what the students have to look forward to.
Rich said, “The build itself has three slides, a bunch of climbing and swinging opportunities, there’s a bridge that they cross and there’s also a sensory wall.”
A ribbon cutting event is being held for the community Tuesday at 5:30pm, followed by an open house at the school and cake.
Rich says it will be a pleasing sight to see the kids playing on the new playground.
“The people that we’ve talked to already,” Rich said, “the kids that have been waiting and looking at it through the fence for the whole summer are just excited to be able to go out and play on it and we’re thrilled that we were able to put this playground in and do it in such a short time frame.”
The CJ Sullivan Elementary maintenance staff and the Village of L’Anse also helped to make the project a success.
