Representative Greg Markkanen’s House Bill 5194, which would eliminate the need for a special license to work on pickup trucks, has passed through Michigan’s House of Representatives with unanimous bipartisan support.
The current law requires mechanics to have special certifications to work on larger commercial trucks, due to the trucks having more advanced components.
Today’s modern pickup trucks, weigh more, and also have advanced components, so the Bill proposed, would eliminate the need for the special certification, thereby easing requirements on smaller repair shops.
The Bill now heads to the Michigan Senate, for further consideration.
