Representative Greg Markkanen from Hancock has announced the Michigan House has approved a long awaited supplemental budget plan, to resolve a pension liability issue in Gogebic County.
The plan sets aside $971,000 to cover the shortfalls in pension costs from the now disbanded Western Upper Peninsula Manpower Consortium.
Markkanen said the bill, will also bring some relief to Houghton County, still trying to regroup after the Father’s Day Flood from 2018.
The plan also breathes new life into Going PRO, which provides training to enhance skills and talents of Michigan’s workforce through grants, and Pure Michigan, the advertising campaign used to promote Michigan’s tourist attractions.
Funding for runaway youth services, centers for independent living and helping veterans cope with PTSD were also included.
The budget plan will also address Great Lakes water levels, and the Asian Carp crisis.
