Regional COVID Diagnosis Rate Slows

The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the western Upper Peninsula has passed 3,000, but the rate of increase seems to be slowing.

The most recent report from the Western U.P. Health Department includes 59 more confirmed positives since the previous update was issued Monday night. 35 of those were in Houghton County, and 17 in Gogebic County. Baraga County recorded just six cases, Keweenaw County had one, and Ontonagon County reported no new confirmed cases.

While the diagnosis rate is falling, the mortality rate is rising. Ten of our neighbors died, including six in Houghton County, two in Baraga County, and one each in Ontonagon and Gogebic Counties.

162 additional recoveries have been confirmed.
