The number of COVID-19 diagnoses in our region took a significant jump over the past few days.
The latest update from the Western Upper Peninsula Health Department shows 143 new confirmed positives, plus eight more probables.
The increase since the last report came out Thursday night was spread across the five counties. Houghton County had 49 more confirmed positives. Gogebic County had 43. Baraga County recorded 29, Ontonagon County 16, and Keweenaw County six. Four more deaths have been reported – three in Gogebic County, and the first one of the pandemic in Ontonagon County.
101 additional recoveries have been confirmed.
Since the pandemic began, 1,449 COVID-19 cases have been confirmed in the five-county region. 26 of our neighbors have died.

Officials continue to ask those who visited Citizens State Bank in Ontonagon recently to be on guard. Multiple potential exposure opportunities took place between October 16th and October 28th. Symptoms typically begin within two to 14 days of exposure. If you feel sick, call your doctor.
