Referendum To Purchase Medical Marijuana Business On KBIC Ballot

The Keweenaw Bay Indian Community is looking to get into the medical marijuana business.

The Tribal Council approved a resolution last week to put a referendum on an upcoming ballot to invest up to $4 million to acquire a medical marijuana grow and dispensary business.

The referendum says the money would come from the Elder’s Trust Fund and be repaid from proceeds created through the facility.

The funds would be used for the purchase of the property for a dispensary and grow facility…as well as legal and licensing fees and other costs.

The resolution was approved by a 5-3 vote.
