Ready for the Sun: Village of L’Anse Residents and Businesses Invited to Attend Conversation On Community Solar

The Village of L’Anse is evaluating the feasibility of a community solar program for its residential and business electric utility customers.

The community solar project would be built in the new industrial park, located on Lambert Rd off of U.S. Highway 41. The power generated would feed into the grid. Customers served by the Village of L’Anse utility would be eligible to purchase solar shares and receive credits on their monthly electric bills when the power is sold.

The Upper Peninsula Solar Technical Assistance and Resource Team (UPSTART) is hosting a Community Meeting on Tuesday, August 22nd, from 6:30pm-8:00pm at the L’Anse Area Schools Cafetorium. Members from the UPSTART team will provide basic information about the project. Most of the meeting will be in small group discussions with community members about what they would look for in a project like this. Everyone is invited and encouraged to attend.

Free refreshments and childcare will be offered during the forum. The first 50 attendees will receive a free LED lightbulb and a chance to win a $300 gift certificate to purchase an Energy Star® appliance, courtesy of sponsors WPPI Energy and the Village of L’Anse.

The UPSTART team consists of members from the Western Upper Peninsula Planning & Development Region (WUPPDR), WPPI Energy, and Michigan Technological University.
