Racist Graffiti Sprayed on Temple Jacob

The police report on a racist graffiti attack on the historic Temple Jacob has been forwarded to the FBI.

Hancock police were called to the building at noon Saturday when a member of the congregation noticed two crudely painted swastikas and what appeared to be a Nazi SS symbol on the walls. The images were scrawled in black spray paint.

No other damage to the building was reported.

Police Chief Wayne Butler says the damage could have occurred anytime during the past five or six days. Officials are reviewing bridge camera footage to see if they can spot the incident.

Because of the “hate” nature of the crime, Butler says the department will increase drive-by patrols of the area around Temple Jacob, and assign an officer to be present during some upcoming evening meetings.

The bigoted symbols have been removed.

There are no suspects at this time, but the investigation continues. If you know something that can help, call the Hancock Police Department.
