Race Up Ironwood’s Copper Peak In Red Bull 400

Roughly 1,000 runners will race to the top of the largest ski-flying hill in the world next Saturday.

The Red Bull 400 returns to the Copper Peak in Ironwood on May 11th.

US Olympic Ski jumper, Sarah Hendrickson, will be training for and partaking in the event.

She won the inaugural women’s World Cup season in 2012 and is the first female to ever jump in a ski jumping event at the Olympics.

She also participated in the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang.

Though she’s used to going down ski jumps, Hendrickson will join the pack in racing up the hill for the Red Bull 400.

Here are all the details on the race:

BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND: THE WORLD’S STEEPEST 400M RACE RETURNS TO COPPER PEAK

WHAT: The world’s steepest 400-meter race is returning to Copper Peak, the iconic Ski Flying Hill and Recreation Center in Ironwood, Michigan on May 11, 2019. Building up on the inaugural success, this year’s competition will provide 1,000 runners the opportunity to race to the top of the largest ski flying hill in the world.

The principle of Red Bull 400 is simple: participants start at the bottom of the ski jump and race uphill 40 stories to the top. This requires speed, endurance and determination to be crowned champion, as participants’ overall fitness will be put to the ultimate test.

Race day will include a skydive by the Red Bull Air Force and culminate with the final heats for both men and women starting at 4:30pm, followed by an awards ceremony for the winners.

This event is free and open to spectators.
