The application period for the 2019 Rabbit Island School has been extended until Sunday, May 19.

The Rabbit Island Foundation and the Portage Lake District Library have partnered to create a unique, place-based arts and ecology program for area students who attend Houghton-Portage Township Schools.

Students awarded with a scholarship will have the opportunity to spend one week on Rabbit Island, participating in an open framework, student lead expedition.

Having the support and facilities of the library on the mainland, students will share their work and island experiences with the general public and fellow students through a series of presentations and exhibitions at the library.

Three accomplished mentors with expertise in the fields of art, conservation, and writing will guide the students throughout the program.

Six local high school students will be selected for full scholarships to the 2019 Rabbit Island School. Scholarships cover all associated travel, food, lodging and other necessary island camping supplies.

All applications must be submitted by 11:59PM on Sunday, May 19. Applicants must be 15-18 years old.

The program is scheduled for July 13th to the 20th.
