A public hearing will be held this evening to address the Warden Power Plant’s request to change the mix of biofuel it uses to produce electrical power.
It’s taking place at L’Anse High School at 7pm.
Specifically, plant owners want officially to discontinue using pentachlorophenol-treated railroad ties.
The plant would continue to burn creosote-treated ties.
Plant officials say that they discontinued using penta-treated ties after an emission test showed elevated chemical levels.
The information session will be hosted by officials of the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality.
Comments about the application may be mailed to Annette Switzer, Permit Section Supervisor, Department of Environmental Quality, Air Quality Division, PO Box 30260, Lansing, MI, 48909, or may be submitted on-line here.
