Property Purchase Agreement For Meijer Approved

The City of Houghton is another step closer to getting a Meijer store.

The City Council approved a real estate option contract with Meijer at their regular meeting Wednesday.

The purchase agreement is for $200,000 and includes a 10-acre plot of land on the west side of West Sharon Avenue, north of Memorial Drive.

Meijer is also in negotiations with two other private entities to secure the property they would need to build a store.

The Grand Rapids-based retailer submitted a letter of intent to purchase the property earlier this year.

The company opened another store in Marquette on Memorial Day weekend.
