There are many recreational opportunities for the residents of Portage Township.
The township is working with the Western Upper Peninsula Planning and Development Region to update its 5-year plan.
Residents are encouraged to take part in a recreational plan survey to help guide the process.
Regional Planner for WUPPDR Brad Barnett said, “What we’re seeking is input from local Portage Township residents, and anyone that recreates in the township area, to help guide the township’s five-year recreational plan.”
There are a number of recreational areas within the township featuring ball fields, ice rinks, tennis courts and trails.
The data from the survey will be used to help earmark the township’s labor and economic resources.
Portage Township Supervisor Bruce Peterson said, “It also assists us in writing Passport Grants, for instance, with the DNR—which is a recreation grant, and pursuing other grants. So at least we know how to prioritize our time and labor.”
The surveys are available online (www.wuppdr.org/surveys) or at the Portage Township office through December 2nd.
