An indoor-outdoor soccer facility in Hurontown is a step closer to reality.
Last night, the Portage Township Board learned that the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy has cleared the property near the existing recreation area for use.
A private developer is hoping to build one indoor field, and two outdoor fields.
A small amount of mitigation will be required, because of some low-grade wetlands.
The township board signed off on a rezoning request that will allow a new church to be built on an 11-acre parcel south of the Gundlach building.
Township Supervisor Bruce Peterson also told us that the Green Acres sewer project is on schedule. The bidding process should begin early next month, and construction will start this spring.
