The following press release was issued by Michigan Tech writer Mark Wilcox:
Scoreboards attached to the clubhouse at Michigan Tech’s Portage Lake Golf Course are now officially named after the late Leo (Rob) Roy.
The naming of the scoreboards after Roy, who passed away March 22, took place Wednesday (July 24) on what would have been Roy’s 86th birthday.
Roy was an avid golfer who served on the PLGC board of directors, was club president, secretary and treasurer though the late 60s and 70s.
Roy became an employee of the golf course in 2003 serving as a starter, ranger, and scorer.
With his impeccable calligraphy, he brought event and tournament scoring to a professional level, scoring more than 20 events per year for more than 15 years.
Roy’s respect for the game of golf and the people playing it resulted in his becoming an irreplaceable asset to the course operations.
The scoreboards will serve to honor his impressive legacy.
