Portage Lake District Library Launches 3-Year Strategic Plan

The Portage Lake District Library has set its course for the next three years. The library launched their 3-year Strategic Plan with an open house Tuesday afternoon.

Work began on the plan in 2018 and included a community survey of what programs and services the public wanted to see.

Library Director Dillon Geshel says the plan focuses on a trio of initiatives–Discover, Imagine, and Connect. “It tasks us with further committing to exceptional service at the library by outlining three different strategic initiatives that a committee of board members, staff, and community members developed through the strategic planning process,” said Geshel.

It the first time the library has formed a strategic plan, giving Geshel and his staff a clear direction for the near future. “I feel like our library system stands out for the region,” said Gesehl. “We’ve done great work for a long time but our work has never really been focused.  So for me as the director, this was really helpful to say we have a plan that was really built from the ground up by surveying our residents.  We know what they need and now we’ve got a plan to meet their needs.”

Over the next few years, Geshel says the library will continue to reevaluate the plan in case any course corrections are needed. “Our board and myself will reevaluate the progress of the strategic plan twice a year but by the time we get to the end of this three year period, we’ll likely be starting another strategic plan initiative and reviewing our progress so far,” Geshel said.

The Strategic Plan is set to expire in 2022 when the library expects to launch a new three-year plan. Copies of the plan can be obtained by contacting the Portage Lake District Library at (906)482-4570 orinfo@pldl.org
