The Portage Lake District Library will host a series of family programs throughout the summer presented by Isle Royale National Park and Keweenaw Park Rangers. Programs will be held every Tuesday, June 20 through August 26, from 1:00 – 1:45 p.m.
These programs offer adventures and activities that are suitable for families and youth ages five to twelve. Programs include a short presentation followed by hands-on activities.

A Copper Country Souvenir with Ranger Lynette Webber
People have been visiting the Copper Country for many years and for many reasons. Kids will share the Keweenaw Experience with visitors from the past 160 years and bring home a souvenir of their own – the Copper Country Scavenger Hunt!

Lodge Construction Ahead with Ranger Lori Honrath
Kids will become an Isle Royale beaver and build their own lodge.
Tuesday, July 11, 1:00 p.m.
Bats of the Great Lakes with Ranger Nick Clark
Kids will learn how these fascinating creatures help humans, yet they are struggling for survival against a deadly disease.
Tuesday, July 18, 1:00 p.m.
Loon Rangers with Ranger Lori Honrath
Kids will experience life as a loon and learn how to help protect these Isle Royale icons.
Tuesday, July 25, 1:00 p.m.
Moosey Appetite with Ranger Aerran Riley
Moose eat a lot. How much is a lot? Forty pounds a day! Kids will discover if they could eat that much and survive as a moose.
