Police Arrest Teenager Suspected Of Starting House Fire

A teenager is suspected of robbery and arson of a house in Stanton Township over Memorial Day weekend.

Acting on a tip, troopers from the Michigan State Police Calumet Post developed information that led to the apprehension of a 15-year-old male for Breaking and Entering and Arson of a Dwelling.

Police also recovered all of the stolen firearms and nearly all of the money.

The juvenile was petitioned to Houghton County Probate Family Court.

Troopers responded to a call of a suspicious fire in Stanton Twp on May 26, 2017 around 10:20pm, at a farm located off the Houghton Canal Road, near Osma Plat Road.

The fire was extinguished by Stanton and Adams Township Fire Departments.

The house was destroyed by the fire.

Afterward, the home owner discovered money and guns were missing.

Due to the age of the suspect, no further details of his identity will be released by police.

The incident remains under investigation.
