PLDL Summer Reading Program Begins

Registration is now open for the Summer Reading Program run by the Portage Lake District Library and the Hancock Library.

This year’s theme is “Oceans of Possibilities.”

Residents of all ages are encouraged to track their summer reading through the READsquared app. Parents can administer accounts for their children.

Prizes including free books and vouchers to the Downtown Houghton Farmer’s Market can be earned by reaching reading benchmarks. The program ends August 13th.

Library officials say active reading by children over the next several months can help maintain reading gains they made during the most recent school year.

Online sign-up is underway here.

The Portage Lake District Library will host an outdoor Summer Reading Kick-Off event on June 18th, from 11am-1pm. Participants can sign up for the program, and enjoy frozen treats, face painting, and other summer reading themed crafts and activities.

The Friends of the Portage Lake District Library will also hold a used book sale that day.
