Today is Plaidurday, the day when Yoopers celebrate the pattern which, although it doesn’t make us unique in the world, does tend to distinguish us from residents in the lower part of the state.
Plaidurday was created 12 years ago by Baraga County native Bugsy Sailor. It will be celebrated in Marquette with a group photo of those wearing plaid at 5:30 on the steps of the county courthouse. It’s the first Marquette Plaidurday group photo in three years, because of COVID-19 concerns.
A similar photo will be taken at 6:00 Central Time in Ironwood at a community celebration organized by Jacquart Fabric Products, which makes the iconic Stormy Kromer caps and other gear.
Don your plaid – colors don’t matter – and show your Yooper pride.
