The Pine Mountain Music Festival continues with a pair of terrific musicians taking the stage Wednesday night at the Calumet Theatre.
Pianist Miles Massicotte and flutist Giovanni Perez are two of the mentors for musicians that are part of the annual UP Starts show.
Executive Director Doug Day says that Massicotte and Perez will have the opportunity to perform together as part of the festival. “Now what this means is we are able to cross over from the A list classical and cut them loose because Miles started as a jazz pianist and Giovanni has had to make his professional way by being energized and alarmingly capable in multiple genre,” said Day.
Day says they musicians will return with the full UP Starts show on Sunday at the Rozsa Center for a different kind of show. “In the past, we’ve had mostly a respectful recital format and we have that this year but we also get to see them kick out the jams a bit,” he said.
The promising young musicians from the Upper Peninsula that make up this year’s UP Starts are pianist Eric Banitt, bassist Benjamin Merte, pianist Kalee Hernendez, mezzo-soprano Karen Albert, and trombonist Benjamin Zindler.
