With the annual Pigs ‘N Heat hockey match less than two weeks away, area police and fire departments will be out in the community selling tickets to the fundraiser.
Along with admission to the game, every ticket purchased is automatically entered in a series of drawings for cash and prizes.
“Pigs N Heat is a non profit charity that the local police departments and fire departments get involved with,” said Lieutenant Nick Roberts of the Houghton Police Department.
The game has been a Keweenaw tradition since 1998 with all proceeds benefiting the Copper Country Police and Fire Relief Fund, a non profit organization that provides services to victims of crime and fire.
Roberts said, “The game is on February 3rd, at 7:00 pm, at the SDC. Come early, buy extra tickets, win some prizes, and watch the game.”
Roberts says that several area businesses will be selling tickets, but local police and firefighters will also have tickets available even when patrolling the community.
“Most of the police departments are still getting tickets out there right now. Most fire fighters, most police officers will also have tickets that you can pick them up from,” Roberts said.
This year’s prizes include a $1000 grand prize, and a shotgun and rifle will also be raffled off along with many other prizes.
