The city of Hancock is getting themselves into a bit of a pickle–pickle ball, at least.
The city council approved a motion to add four pickle ball courts to the Laurn Grove Tennis Court and one pickle ball court on the Laurn Grove concrete play area.
Tennis court users will still be able to play tennis and usage of the court will be first come, first, er, serves.
Hancock City Mayor John Haeussler said pickle ball is cross between ping pong and tennis and called it the “fastest growing sport in America”, at least among older adults.
The city agreed to pay to have the necessary lines painted on the courts and a local group of pickle ball players will provide their own equipment.
Pickle ball courts will not be added to the new tennis courts at Terrace Park unless it’s deemed necessary later on.
