PHF Offers Grants to Food Pantries

The Portage Health Foundation is offering a round of small grants to boost local food pantries.

The rising cost of food is forcing more people to rely on food pantries. Foundation officials say they recognize that the need has increased. The grants are designed to help deal with the surge.

The deadline to apply is Monday, October 24. Food pantries and other organizations that provide immediate emergency food assistance are eligible. The maximum amount awarded per grant will be $2,500.

Organizations that apply must be based in Houghton, Keweenaw, Baraga or Ontonagon Counties, and must currently be operating an emergency food assistance program that serves all members of the community.
