Petition Filed To Recall Calumet Village President Geisler

Another recall petition has been filed against a member of the Calumet Village Council.

Village President Dave Geisler is being targeted for recall by a petition filed at the Houghton County Clerk’s office on Friday.

The petition language charges Geisler with providing false financial records to the Village of Calumet Finance Committee on February, 3rd, 10th, and 24th of 2017, and to the Village Trustees and the public at a public hearing and special meeting of the Village of Calumet Council on February 28th, causing the Village of Calumet to adopt a deficit elimination plan on August 15th.

The Houghton County Elections Committee will hold a Clarity Hearing to decide if the wording on the petition is clear.

If approved, there will be a ten day period to allow Geisler to appeal.

If there is not an appeal, then the petitioner may begin collecting signatures to try and put the recall on the November ballot.

An earlier petition to recall Calumet Village Trustee Virginia Dwyer was submitted and approved by the county and has not been appealed.

In both cases, only 17 signatures will be needed to place the recall on the ballot.

A separate petition was filed with Calumet Township to dissolve the village entirely and is still under review.
