Person Pulled From Water After Going Over Side Of Bridge

The Houghton Police Department says they responded to a call around 1:40pm Friday afternoon that a person had gone over the Portage Lake Lift Bridge.

Officers arrived on scene and found a person in the water near the bridge.

Houghton Police officers as well as officers from Michigan Tech Public Safety and the Hancock Police Department pulled the person from the water.

The individual was taken by Mercy Ambulance to U.P. Health System—Portage.

The person’s condition has not been reported and no other details were released.

Also assisting on scene was the Houghton and Hancock Fire Departments, the Michigan State Police and the Houghton County Sheriff’s Department.
