Pay Raises Passed for Part-Time Laurium Police Officers

Part-time police officers in Laurium will be getting a raise.

The pay boost was approved at last night’s village council meeting. It’s the first bump in four years. Council members noted that the new pay rate will be in line with what other departments in the area are offering, and could help them recruit new officers.

In other action, the council decided to hire U.P. Engineers and Architects to perform a structural inspection of the village hall. The historic building was built in 1899, and remodeled and expanded in 1914.

The fire department is planning a touch-a-truck event in October. Details are being finalized.
