Partisan Candidates Begin County Commissioner Runs

There are several new candidates running for Houghton County Commissioner this election season as the partisan deadline to register passed Tuesday.

Republican Tom Tikkanen in District 1 is the only incumbent running unopposed at this time.

Board Chair Al Koskela will square off with Democrat Melissa Davis, best known for her work with the Houghton County Energy Efficiency Team.

Hancock City Manager Glenn Anderson is running unopposed as a Democrat for District 3, the seat currently held by Anton Pintar, who will not be seeking re-election. Anderson is retiring from his city manager position at the end of this year.

Realtor Gretchen Janssen is also running unopposed as a Democrat for District 4…currently held by Commissioner Scott Ala.

District 5 is the only seat the will have a challenge in the primary with Republican Roy Britz taking on incumbent Tim Palosaari. Sharon Stoll is also running as the sole Democrat.

Michigan’s primary election is August 7th and the general election is November 6th.
