A resolution dealing with parking on residential properties was approved at Wednesday’s Houghton City Council meeting.
Under the resolution, off-street parking has to be either on the lot or within 400 feet of the building it is intended to serve.
Also in the resolution were incentives for property owners of rental units to renovate areas that may not comply with city maintenance codes.
Another resolution passed last night dealt with property borders to make sure they are clearly marked.
City manager Eric Waara said that lack of snow so far has allowed city crews to work on projects that had previously been scheduled for spring.
Waara also reported that the recent Ladies Night promotion in the city was a huge success.
Police chief John Donnelly reported that a second meeting was held concerning adding bicycle paths in the city.
A Michigan Tech bicycle committee took part in the meeting.
The city fire department requested — and received — authorization to add three additional reserve members to the department.
The reserves must complete a Michigan Fire Fighter 1 test to be eligible to serve.
