Because of the spike in cases in Ontonagon County, suspension of face-to-face activities for students in the Ontonagon and Ewen-Trout Creek school districts will continue for two more weeks.
Students in Gogebic County districts will spend one more week studying from home.
The tentative return dates are November 20th in Ontonagon County, and November 13th in Gogebic County.
In a statement released late last week, Gogebic-Ontonagon County Intermediate School District Superintendent Alan Tulppo said the schools were forced to make the decision because too many community members are not following the recommendations of public health experts.
Tulppo encouraged residents to wear masks, wash hands, avoid large events, stay home if they are not feeling well, and disinfect surfaces daily.
In Marquette County, Westwood High School will be closed today, after a positive COVID-19 diagnosis over the weekend. Officials will use the time for contact tracing.
