Officials Urge Roadside Safety

State officials remain concerned about the number of first responders who are struck by vehicles while working in and next to roadways.

During National Traffic Incident Response Awareness Week, authorities remind us that Michigan’s Move Over law requires drivers to slow down at least 10 miles per hour below the posted speed limit, and move over as much as possible.

That applies to any stationary vehicles with emergency lights flashing, including tow trucks, garbage trucks, road maintenance vehicles and utility service vehicles.

Officials also recommend that you keep your vehicle in good working condition. Pack an emergency kit to use if you become stranded. If that happens, stay inside your vehicle until help arrives.
