Officials Encourage “Back to School” Safety

Copper Country kids are heading back to school today, and officials are reminding drivers to be careful.

Watch for children along the road at bus stops, and walking or biking to and from school. And remember to stop for school buses when the flashing lights come on.

Houghton police chief John Donnelly says they have the most problems with that on the busiest and most dangerous roads…

Drivers convicted of illegally passing a school bus can be fined up to $500, ordered to perform up to 100 hours of community service, and receive three points on their driver’s license. Donnelly says you’re not in the clear if you don’t immediately get pulled over, either…

And, if you do get pulled over, don’t expect to get off with just a warning…

Stay alert, and keep our kids safe.
