The Nordic Film Series at Finlandia University’s Finnish American Heritage Center resumes January 10 with a Finnish documentary that will uplift the spirits of the audience and kick off the 2019 Heikinpäivä festival.
“Hobbyhorse Revolution,” a 2017 film, will show at 2 and 6 p.m. on Thursday, January 10. It is a funny and moving film about the power of imagination and the strength of a community. The film follows three young girls, Aisku, Elsa and Alisa, whose lives have been transformed by their new interest: hobbyhorses. Despite a lack of understanding by some, the girls bravely and spiritedly pursue their hobby.
Playing with hobbyhorses is a traditional children’s activity, but today’s Finnish teenagers have created a versatile hobby around it, raising the scene to a whole new level. This 90-minute film explores what has led to this global phenomenon.
The films are open to the public; donations are appreciated. For more information, call (906) 487-7506.
