HOUGHTON, MI (October 24, 2018) – The Keweenaw Young Professionals (KYP) Board of Directors is seeking nominations to fill six board positions for 2019. Motivated individuals who desire to be involved in the community, demonstrate leadership skills, and contribute unique perspectives to a dynamic team are encouraged to submit nominations by November 28, 2018.
KYP is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that offers opportunities for young professionals to connect and grow through community engagement. The group has organized over 65 social events and more than 45 volunteering and educational events since 2013.
This nonprofit organization is organized and operated by a volunteer board of up to eleven members. New board members have the opportunity to share their talents and interests to shape the direction of the organization and the planning of future events. Prior experience with KYP or a nonprofit board is not required.
“Since joining the KYP Board of Directors in January 2019 I’ve had the opportunity to do many fun things I wouldn’t have otherwise done, with great people, I would not have met, had it not been for KYP,” observes outgoing Chair, Angela Hoffman. “As new members join the board, I look forward to mentoring them and connecting them to the community.”
Open board positions include:
CO-CHAIR: Lead the board in alignment with KYP mission, represent KYP in community collaborations, prepare board meeting agendas, run monthly meetings, support the organization and marketing of events. (2 openings)
TREASURER: Treasurer | Manage the organization’s finances: maintain bank account, update cash flow, pay invoices, track reimbursements, report on finances at monthly meetings. (1 opening)
GENERAL BOARD MEMBER: General Board Member | Contribute your talents, plan events, assist with communications, help steer the organization, create relationships with community organizations, attract new membership and sponsorship. (3 openings)

Nominations will be reviewed by the KYP Nomination Committee and selected Board Members will be announced at the KYP 2019 Kickoff taking place at the Downtowner Lounge Banquet Room on Saturday, January 19th, 2019 beginning at 4 p.m.
