New Marketing Campaign Coming For Calumet

Calumet, Michigan – On July 5th, 2018, Main Street Calumet (MSC) and the Village of Calumet Downtown Development Authority (DDA) were awarded a $5000 marketing grant by the Western Upper Peninsula Planning and Development Region (WUPPDR). This funding, made available through WUPPDR Community Marketing Mini-Grant Program, offers an exciting opportunity for the Village of Calumet to promote residential and commercial development throughout the coming year and beyond.

With Calumet’s low cost of entry to the housing market and abundant recreational assets, as well as its wealth of history and pristine natural environment, MSC and the DDA have identified a unique appeal attractive to all, but focused towards two distinct groups. The first group includes young professionals and families with an enthusiasm for the outdoors, mobile or entrepreneurial careers, and a deep desire to contribute their talents and passions in building a close-knit community. The second group includes adventurous retirees that wish to build a post-career lifestyle around community, outdoor activities, and a close connection to nature.

Beginning this fall, the two organizations will work in cooperation to create a multimedia marketing campaign designed to spark interest among these two groups by showcasing the rewards of living and working in Calumet. A correlated campaign will also reach out to area alumni with an appeal to help support specific development efforts throughout the coming year. Elements of the campaign will be released over the course of the next 12 months.

Village of Calumet DDA chairperson Leah Polzien expressed great enthusiasm for this seminal campaign development. “Marketing can be a hugely expensive proposition, and having MSC and DDA partner on the WUPPDR grant just makes sense. The way we’ve structured the grant calls for creation of a large pool of high-quality video and photo content that will be the property of both organizations, to use as they wish for this current project and beyond.”

MSC is a 501c3 nonprofit organization focused on historical preservation and economic revitalization in Calumet. The Village of Calumet DDA serves as a catalyst in the development of the community’s downtown district.
