New Houghton County Prosecutor Appointed

Houghton County has a new prosecuting attorney but it’s a familiar face in the courtroom. Assistant prosecuting attorney Brittany Bulleit has been appointed to the position held for years by former Houghton County Prosecuting Attorney Michael Makinen.

Makinen had previously stated in an interview prior to the 2016 election that this would be his last term in office. The reason for his early departure has not been announced.

Bulleit is a graduate of Houghton High School, DePaw University, and Michigan State University College of Law. She held the position of assistant prosecuting attorney for the county for the past ten years.

Attorney Jesse Belanger has been working in the county prosecutor’s office since January and has now accepted the position of assistant prosecutor as of April 1^st. Belanger is a graduate of the University of Michigan and Wayne State University Law School and has been practicing law since 2017.
