Houghton County has a new Emergency Management Coordinator.
For the last 17 years, the position has been held by Jack Dueweke, but he will be retiring at the end of the month.
At Tuesday’s regular meeting of the Board of Commissioners, Dueweke introduced his replacement, Christopher Van Arsdale.
Van Arsdale has a background in power systems, electrical, mining and civil engineering dealing with infrastructure systems.
He is also president of Superior Search and Rescue and the coordinator for the Amateur Radio Emergency Service and Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service.
Van Arsdale is spending this month working with Dueweke.
Afterward, there are a couple of projects he is interested in moving forward.
Van Arsdale will officially take the reigns on November 1st.
