New Hancock Schools Superintendent Ready To Begin

For most of the Copper Country, the new school year begins the day after Labor Day and students at Hancock Public Schools will have a new administrator at the helm.

Former Middle and High School Principal Kipp Beaudoin was named Superintendent this summer to replace Monica Healy, who retired after more than 30 years in education.

Beaudoin has also been in education for nearly 30 years, the last two with Hancock, and he knows he has big shoes to fill.

Beaudoin said, “I think that anytime you follow someone who’s capable, you always worry that you’re going to be able to fill those shoes.  What’s nice about following someone that’s capable is that things are in place, and so you can build off that work that they’ve done and I think that will really be Monica’s legacy is that she had some tough decisions to make when she took over the helm here.  The district was able to move from being in a very tight situation, financially, to moving away from that.  I think that Monica did a nice job in terms of leaving the ground very level for me to start playing on.”

Beaudoin says he doesn’t feel he needs to change much, just keep improving Hancock schools.

“I think it’s always fair to say that we’re perpetually wanting to improve product for students,” Beaudoin said.  “I think that’s something you always want to be doing.  Not that we have bad product, I certainly wouldn’t say that, but I think anytime that you’re in any role, you want to do better today than you did yesterday, and that would certainly be a goal that I would have for myself and for the district.”

Beaudoin’s contract was approved by the Hancock School Board on August 1st.
