New Habitat Project Begins Tonight

Ground will be broken for the newest Copper Country Habitat for Humanity project tonight.

A home will be built at 800 Champion Street in Houghton for Nikki Kaufman and her family. Much of the work will be performed by volunteers, including Kaufman herself. The goal is to have the exterior closed in before the first snow. Interior work will be completed during the winter.

Along with local volunteer efforts, Habitat homes are supported by several manufacturers of building products and appliances. Homes are designed to be energy-efficient, and affordable to own and maintain. Outstanding financial costs are assumed by the homeowner as a home loan, with regular monthly payments.

Volunteers are needed to assist with the project. If you’d like to help, call 482-5376 and leave a message with a return phone number, or send an email to cchfh@pasty.com.
