Treat Street in downtown Houghton is going to be a little different this year.
The 8th annual event will still feature many of the businesses passing out candy and the haunted house at the city center.
But instead of being on Friday, the event has been moved to Saturday.
Lt. Nick Roberts of the Houghton Police Department said, “We’re changing from Friday to Saturday, and we’re going to go from 4:30pm till 6:00pm. So, don’t show up on Friday because we won’t be here or ready. We’re hoping the traffic will be a little less and it’ll be a little safer for the families.”
An estimated 2,000 kids come out to Treat Street.
Traffic will be rerouted away from Shelden Ave to keep them safe so they can come and enjoy the city’s haunted house.
Lt. Roberts said, “It’s not going to be scary, so bring the younger kids out. It’s geared toward younger kids, elementary-aged kids. But, you know what? Everybody come out, have fun. Parents dress up, too. It’s a huge success for everybody. It’s a win-win for the community and us.”
They’ll then hit the street and collect that candy.
