Michigan Tech is the recipient of a gift of forest land valued at more than a million dollars.
The gift of 640 acres to the School of Forest Resources and Environmental Science is from Ruth Nara of Houghton and Bootjack. The parcel of land is located in Houghton County’s Torch Lake Township.
A special signing event will take place at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, June 28, at the Nara Nature Park Chalet in Houghton. Mrs. Nara, her daughter Susan and Susan’s husband Michael Lutz attended a special signing event at the Nara Nature Park Chalet in Houghton Thursday…along with representatives from Michigan Tech.
Mrs. Nara and her late husband Robert Nara are well known for their philanthropy throughout the Copper Country. University President Glenn Mroz, Assistant Vice President for Advancement Eric Halonen and representatives from the School of Forest Resources and Environmental Science have been working with the Nara family for years to solidify this gift.
