MTU Trustees Meet This Morning; Commencement Tomorrow

The Michigan Tech Board of Trustees will meet this morning.

Among the items trustees will review are recommendations from the University Senate that the School of Forest Resources and Environmental Science, and School of Business and Economics both be elevated to college levels. The recent University Senate resolution that calls for increases in faculty salaries and criticizes the raise and bonuses offered to school president Dr. Richard Koubek will also be presented.

Michigan Tech will award more than 325 bachelor’s, master’s and PhD degrees during its Midyear Commencement ceremony tomorrow.

The keynote speaker will be alumna Jennifer (Fuller) Julien of Houghton. Julien now co-owns a half dozen companies in the property investment, retail and construction industries.

The graduating senior speaker will be Victoria Quinde Serrano. Quinde Serrano was a three-time captain of the women’s tennis team, and earned All-GLIAC and All-Academic honors. During her sophomore year, a major earthquake caused significant damage in her home country of Ecuador. She organized a local fundraising effort for victims.

Midyear Commencement will begin tomorrow morning at 10:30 at the SDC. It will be streamed here.
