A team from Michigan Tech is competing in the finals of a NASA competition.
The BIG Idea Challenge asked college students to develop technology to support NASA’s goal of exploring the permanently shadowed regions near the polar areas of the moon.
BIG stands for Breakthrough, Innovative and Game-changing.
Tech Today reports that the MTU team is one of eight finalists.
Their tethered mobile device, nicknamed T-REX, can be used for exploration, and as a charging station for other mobile units. It’s being introduced in a virtual presentation this afternoon.
Teams from the University of Virginia, Penn State and Northeastern University were also on today’s schedule. Tomorrow’s lineup features MIT, Dartmouth, the Colorado School of Mines with the University of Arizona, and Arizona State.
NASA will announce the winner of the BIG Idea Challenge on Monday.
