MTU STEM Field Trip Grant Renewed

Outdoor field trips for school students will continue this year through the Michigan Tech Center for Science and Environmental Outreach.

Tech Today reports that a $20,000 grant from Mary Nelson and the Wege Foundation of Grand Rapids will help pay for the outdoor adventures for kindergarten through eighth grade students.

The STEM Investigations Field Trip Program is open to districts in Houghton, Keweenaw, Baraga, Ontonagon and Gogebic Counties.

Last year, nearly 3,000 students from 14 schools took advantage of the program, which provides specialized outings for fall, winter and spring.

Last year’s totals were down about 20 percent, because spring trips were canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
