MSU Shooting Victim Released from Hospital

One of the five Michigan State University students injured in a mass shooting at the University February 13th has been released from the hospital.

Troy Forbush revealed his identity on his Facebook account yesterday, writing “I took a bullet to my chest, had a brush with death, and almost didn’t make it if it weren’t for the incredible doctors who saved my life in emergency surgery that night.” Forbush said he still faces a long recovery.

Identities of three of the other four injured students have also been revealed, mostly because GoFundMe sites have been set up in their names to help pay for medical and rehabilitation expenses.

Junior Nate Statly’s fundraiser has brought in more than $275,000. His family says his path to recovery will be a “long and difficult one.”

International student John Hao’s site has raised more than $406,000. He is paralyzed from the chest down.

Junior Guadalupe Huapilla-Perez’ site has raised more than $473,000. Her page indicates she will need months of extended care and rehabilitation, after suffering multiple internal injuries.

We’ve provided links to their GoFundMe sites in our story at KeweenawReport.com, if you would like to help.

Students Alexandria Verner, Arielle Anderson and Brian Fraser were murdered in the attack by 43-year-old Anthony McRae, who later took his own life.
