Travel will be a little easier on Michigan highways this Labor Day weekend, as the Michigan Department of Transportation will suspend work on many of its construction projects.
From 3 p.m. today until 6 a.m. Tuesday, 96 out of 162 construction zones will open up. Officials note that caution will still be needed, as there may be lane shifts involved, and equipment in the area.
Among the projects in our region where delays or detours will remain in place…
• US-41/College Avenue in Houghton, where the detour remains posted,
• M-64 between Ontonagon and Silver City, where traffic alternates through one lane at the Floodwood River bridge,
• US-45 near Paulding, where traffic alternates through one lane at the Roselawn Creek bridge,
• US-41 in Marquette, where lanes are reduced and shifted between Blemhuber Avenue and Furnace Street.
The Mackinac Bridge will be closed to vehicle traffic on Labor Day from 6:30 a.m. until noon during the Annual Bridge Walk.
