The Houghton County Road Commission is getting more goodies from the federal government than we were first told.
A release from Congressman Jack Bergman’s office late last week identified U.S. Department of Agriculture funds that will be used to purchase a quad axle truck, a truck with a water tank steamer, and a column vehicle lift to replace aging equipment.
USDA Rural Development now tells us that the road commission is also receiving funding for a hydraulic road widener to provide shoulder maintenance to more than 850 miles of county roads, a skid steer loader, and two road patrol vehicles. They will replace two worn out vehicles that are used to service and repair plows, graders, sander trucks, snowblowers, loaders, and excavators that have broken down in the field.
The money is part of the ongoing Father’s Day Flood relief effort.
