Mobile Food Pantry Draws L’Anse Crowd

Business was brisk as the Feeding America West Michigan Mobile Food Pantry stopped in L’Anse Thursday.

290 families received boxes of food that included fresh fruit and vegetables.

The lineup of cars at Meadowbrook Arena stretched all the way back down Main Street into the center of town.

Long-time volunteer Jerry Jackovac said bringing the food bank to a small town gets the supply closer to an area of significant need…

“The big demand is out in the rural areas. It’s getting the food out to people in the real rural areas – and that has been a problem for 50 years.”

The Food Pantry’s visit was underwritten by the Portage Health Foundation.

It will set up next Thursday at 3:30 at the Ontonagon School.
